School Closings & Delays

Russ Kinsley was born on July 5 1953 in Burlington, grew up in Essex Junction and has lived in Vermont all his life. Russ started his radio career at WRUV. He was one of the original djs at WNCS, which he helped to build.  WIZN followed a few years later. Russ had the idea for the station, built it and became founder and co-owner, as well as one of the original on-air staff. In the mid-80s Russ purchased WKLZ 92.1 FM "More Rock Classics", which he sold in late 1987 (it has been through many transformations since!) He did a stint at WEQX in Manchester and started his own business.

Then......along came WEXP in Burlington, of which Russ was one of the owners. For various reasons, WEXP only lasted for 10 months and then was sold. In 1995, Russ began work behind the scenes, as an engineer for a TV station.

Meanwhile, Russ, never stopped trying to figure out a way to bring the kind of radio he believed in back to the airwaves. Finally, in early 1998, the beginnings of what would become The Album Station started to take form. This earlier incarnation was on the air from January until September that year. It would be another 14 months before that radio dream became The Album Station on November 23,1999. Russ took over the controls at a time of day he had once been very familiar with.....as the morning drive disc jockey from 6-10am.

If Russ had not become so involved in the world of radio broadcasting, he probably would have chosen another kind of work as an engineer.…...for the railroad! Russ loves trains and everything about them. He also has a ham radio license. His other interests include history, maps and tractors.

Russ' favorite bands are the Beatles, the Allman Brothers, the Stones, Supertramp, Jethro Tull, CCR, and Poco.  His favorite artists: Jackson Browne, Bruce Cockburn, and Bonnie Raitt Top  Albums: Rubber Soul, Allman's Live at the Fillmore, first Santana, Let It Bleed, Songs for Beginners from Graham Nash, Supertramp's Crisis What Crisis?, Fleetwood Mac's Bare Trees, Van Morrison's Moondance, Can't Buy A Thrill/Steely Dan and Hendrix/ Cry of Love.  First Rock Concert: Three Dog Night, Patrick Gym Best Concerts: Santana, Burlington 1969, Joan Armatrading, (sometime in the 70s), Paul McCartney (D.C. 1989) and The Rolling Stones, Montreal 1994
