In April of 1968, Stephen Stills "peeled off a few hundreds" to the engineer at a Judy Collins session in NYC so that he could make a tape of his new songs. That tape was lost to the wind for nearly 40 years. It was recorded a number of months before the first CSN album. "Somehow it's found its way back, and these songs now feel like great friends when they were really young." ~ Stephen Stills ~ The name of the album is Just Roll Tape. It was released in 2007 and it's our Album Feature for February 24
The Album Feature for February 17 is 21st Century Schizoid Band Official Bootleg Volume One.The band was formed by original and past members of King Crimson, Ian McDonald, Michael Giles and Mel Collins, with additional musicians, Jakko Jakszyk and Peter Giles.
It was recorded live in a London studio in August of 2002. Tracks include familiar King Crimson tunes: I Talk To The Wind, In The Court of The Crimson King, and, of course, 21st Century Schizoid Man and more. These are very interesting arrangements with no "cosmetic touch ups" !
Dave Mason is on tour and performing in our area soon. He'll be sharing the bill with Leon Russell at The Egg in Albany on Saturday March 6th.

The album is a complete live performance of Young's album Harvest Moon drawn from various solo acoustic shows he performed in 1992 before the actual release of the Harvest studio recording, which makes this performance even more unique. Dreamin' Man Live '92 revisits Harvest Moon 17 years after its release by pulling together a series of intimate solo acoustic performances Young did at the time. The album was produced by Young and John Hanlon and recorded and mixed by Tim Mulligan. Tune in on Wednesday December 16 at 8 pm.

The Album Feature for December 2 is Waiting For the Sun (1968) from The Doors.......their third album. Interestingly enough, the song Waiting For the Sun does not appear on this album. It's on Morrison Hotel, which was released in 1970. We chose a Doors album because two of the band members have birthdays in early December. Drummer John Densmore on Dec. 1 (1944) and James Douglas Morrison Dec. 8 (1943). Jim passed away in 1971 at age 27. Two members of The Doors have written memoirs : Riders on the Storm by John Densmore and Light My Fire - My Life With the Doors by Ray Manzarek. I've read them both. The Manzarek book is better......a really interesting and fun read! Diane

The Album Feature for August 19 is This Time, the brand new one from Robert Cray. This is his first studio album in 5 years.
Robert Cray has been away from the studio for awhile but the song remains the same. Cray makes elegant sophisticated blues with strong vocals and understated guitar lines. Strong song writing makes this another solid piece of work in Cray's long career. There isn't any guitar hero antics here. Just well played intelligent music performed by an underrated and often overlooked musician. www.robertcray.com

If you enjoy Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Vanilla Fudge and "Space Music" in general, tune in at 8 pm Eastern Daylight Time.....Planet Earth
Back when it was quad and ‘The Kid’ was king, two divergent musicians from Cleveland joined forces in their quest to combine electronic rock, free-form jazz, and take music to a whole new level. The time was right; technology was fueling music and both were bursting at the seams.
Abruptly abandoning the thriving local music scene, they began to plan their electro-musical assault in the basement of a great little music store.........
"The Earthmen" diligently began to build the machine and started creating music that was considered weird, far-out and, “you call that music?” At two o’clock in the morning, you could drive down Euclid Avenue and hear strange sounds and rhythms echoing through the deserted city blocks. The rumors were true; the journey had begun. With tools primitive by today’s standards, the Earthmen ventured into uncharted musical realms; believing that music should flow from within you… spontaneously and uninhibited. It could never be written, it just had to happen. — Wow!As time passed, our intrepid Earthmen harnessed unusual sounds and intricate rhythms; molding and developing the aural craziness into an innovative and unique musical art form. Soon, other friendly Earthmen, each revolving in their own unique orbits of talent and creativity, joined to help and the colony began to grow… the sound became as big as infinity. Pi Corp was born!
The small band of Pi-oneers relentlessly explored and challenged the boundaries of the sonic universe; constantly battling turbulent brain waves, clogged screens, and broken Echo-Plex tape. But by the grace of the Gods of Rock, our cosmic minstrels were able to record their explorations; logging every spontaneous and uncharted mission in ancient analog code.
