DIANE'S DESK
August 31, 2010
This is a favorite quote of mine. Anyone who's been part of the world of radio for any length of time, definitely understands.
"The radio business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.
There's also a negative side.
~ Hunter S. Thompson
We're all travelers on this highway of life, and what we try to do here, as your radio broadcasters, is make the journey more fun by providing a soundtrack.
The music might take you back into your treasure chest of memories.....or might become the accompaniment to new, wonderful memories.
Maybe you, like me, really enjoy finding out that the younger generation is not all about loud, senseless, violent sounds and words. I've always loved it when one of my sons has asked me about a particular song that we play on ZXP.....a tune that, for whatever reason, has caught their ear. Maybe it's a track from a Jethro Tull album or a band like Spooky Tooth, that never gets played on the radio (except here). When my younger son was still in grade school, I was playing Jimi Hendrix in the car, and, he exclaimed, "Mom, this sounds just like Lenny Kravitz!!!!" It gave me an opportunity to tell him that, actually, Lenny Kravitz is a huge admirer of Hendrix, so Jimi was a major influence on Lenny's music. If Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers appeal to multiple generations, then maybe, just maybe, the teens and twenty-somethings will also love The Byrds. Do you really like Neil Young? Well, give Last Time Around a spin. That was Neil's former band. They called themselves Buffalo Springfield.
We sincerely hope that you'll consider becoming a member of our Album Station family and contribute a monthly amount via this very website.
Sisters, Ann and Nancy Wilson are back with the latest record from Heart: Red Velvet Car, our Album Feature for September 1.

ABOUT
THE MUSIC STATION
The Album Station is a locally-programmed station, broadcasting throughout the Champlain Valley and beyond, that has the freedom to play the music you want to hear, featuring over 6000 tracks of the best music from over the past 40 years.
The Album Station is what FM radio used to be known for: an alternative to top 40 chart-driven programming. We have one of the largest playlists in the country, because we play tracks many other stations have abandoned, due to corporate programming and market research surveys.
At The Album Station we combine familiar hits with album cuts, striking a balance between new and old rock songs, R & B, blues, folk and jazz. We showcase artists' creativity, exemplifying their particular skill or talent.
We favor cuts off albums you love, but haven't heard in years, going deeper into the less commercial tracks. We play music you want to hear that you won't hear anywhere else.

Keith's quote of the week
"There was a knock on our dressing room door. Our Manager shouted, "Keith! Ron! The police are here!"
Oh, man, we panicked, flushed everything down the john.
Then the door opened and it was Stewart Copeland and Sting.
